Ali Zhang Yong announces new organizational adjustments
2021-12-06: [Article Link] On 6 December, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Alibaba and CEO Zhang Yong sent an internal letter announcing that the company would upgrade its “multiple governance” system, appointing Dashan and Chiangfan to the two newly created “China Digital Business” and “Overseas Digital Business” sections, respectively. As the group’s president, Dassan would be responsible for the group’s operations on behalf of the Alibaba Group, which would be responsible for such operations as the “China Digital Business” and the “Overseas Digital Business” (ICBU), the B2C Retail Enterprise, Vegetables, Rudders, and 1688, which would form the “Overseas Digital Business Block.” As the group’s president, Zhang Fan, on behalf of the Alibaba Group, would be responsible for two overseas operations, namely, the Global Rapid Selling and International Trade (ICBU), and a number of affiliates such as Lazada, which would form the “Oversea Digital Business Block.”
In his internal letter, Zhang Yung stated that the upgrading of the system of pluralistic governance was intended to create real long-term values with a clearer strategic blueprint and a more agile organization in all areas of operation. Internal needs, globalization, and cloud computing were the three main strategies of Ali Baba, while Zhang Jung has advocated for agile organization since 2015 when he assumed the post of Deputy Chief Financial Officer of the Group (CFO), Toby, and Wubei will continue to serve as the Group’s executive director and as a member of the Group’s Board of Directors for Sustainable Development. In his internal letter, Mr. Zhang, with the phrase “excellent historical contribution,” gave full recognition to Ali’s work over the past 15 years and to Ali Baba’s achievements.
Zhang Yung stated that, as the Alibaba group develops a multi-operative engine that drives future growth, “multiple governance” will become a brand-new organizational strategy for the group. Alibaba wants to use organizational innovation to drive business innovation through more innovative approaches to governance.
