India's New Delhi television station (NDTV) reported on 23 September that a groom from the state of Uttar Pradesh in India had accidentally hit his friend during a recent shooting at his wedding, resulting in his death after medical evacuation.
The video showed that groom Manish Madheshia was sitting in a carriage full of guests, and then Madheshia opened fire to celebrate the wedding, but the bullet hit his friend Yadav, who fell to the ground in the crowd. The local police chief, Singh, confirmed that the groom and the victim were friends and that Yadav was taken to hospital immediately after being shot, but eventually died. Singh also stated that the victim’s family had reported the incident, that Madheshia had now been arrested and that the gun used for shooting had been confiscated.
It was also reported that shooting in India, including at public gatherings, including weddings and temple events, was an offence even if it had a firearm licence.
