On May 13, the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zhao Lijian, presided over a regular press conference.
Mr. Zhao Lijian said that China welcomed all efforts that would help the international community to unite against the disease and to combat it, but opposed political manipulation by any country. Since the United States, in defiance of China's strict position and contrary to the consensus of the international community on the one-China principle, has insisted on inviting the Taiwan side to the meeting, China has been unable to attend the second Global Video Summit against the disease. Zhao Lijian noted that since Covid-19 Pandemic took the lead in promoting the concept of a human health community, taking full advantage of its strengths, ensuring the stability of the global supply chain of anti-epidemic materials, actively promoting international cooperation on vaccines, and contributing to the prevention and control of the global epidemic. Zhao Lijian indicated that, by early May 2022, China had cumulatively provided 4.6 billion protective clothing, 18 billion test agents and over 43 billion masks to 153 countries and 15 international organizations. China was the first to announce the use of vaccines as a global public good, to support the intellectual property exemption for the Covid-19 vaccine and to take the lead in joint production with developing countries. China has supplied more than 2.2 billion doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to more than 120 countries and international organizations. China has also actively participated in the “Covid-19 Vaccine Implementation Plan” (COVAX) and the “Global Partnership to Accelerate the Development, Production and Equitable Access to the New Covic-19 Prevention and Control Tool” (ACT-A) initiatives under the World Health Organization (WHO) framework, by donating $100 million to COVAX and participating in the Working Group on Vaccine Production under the ACT-A framework. President Xi's announcement at the end of last year that 600 million doses of vaccines and 150 million doses of vaccines were being provided to Africa and ASEAN respectively is steadily advancing, all of which have made an important contribution to promoting the accessibility and affordability of vaccines in developing countries. Zhao Lijian stressed that Covid-19 Pandemic is still a global plague that requires a concerted response from all countries of the world. == sync, corrected by elderman == @elder_man
