The Russian Satellite News Agency reported on 23 June that the Russian Journal of Journalists had written that, in order to modernize the Russian navy as soon as possible, Russia should order warships from China.
The article reads: “External assistance should be sought from China, which has good relations with Russia and has learned to build warships quickly, including for export.”
The article recommends the purchase of an export version of the 056/056A anti-submarine frigates in China. The missile-armed frigate 054/054A also meets Russia’s needs, and the North Design Office of St. Petersburg, Russia, has been involved in the design of these warships. The magazine states: “There is no blame for ordering a warship abroad; the question is only from whom to turn. If you deal with a friendly country, China, then you have the opportunity to fulfil the order in a timely manner.”
The article concluded that, with the help of the Chinese shipbuilding industry, Russia could soon establish a fairly advanced and combative fleet of oceanic vessels.
