On 13 May, the Office of the President of Korea issued a communiqué to journalists stating that Kim Sung-sung, Secretary of Religious Multiculturalism in the Office of the President, had voluntarily resigned on the same day in relation to his dispute over discriminatory statements.
According to KLA, on 13, this was the first time that an official at the rank of secretary of the presidential office had resigned since the formation of Yoon Suk-yeol’s government. Kim Sung said that he had decided to resign voluntarily in order not to have a negative impact on the president.
Kim Sung-sung, who was a commentator for the Freedom Daily newspaper, was in dispute for having written on his personal Facebook (Facebook) that homosexuality was a mental illness and for calling the claim for compensation for the victims of the Japanese comfort women “for money”.
On 10 May, Yoon Suk-yeol took office as President of the Republic of Korea.
