KLA reported on 20 May that President Biden of the United States would undertake an official three-day visit to South Korea from the afternoon of 20 May and that he would hold a summit meeting with President Yoon Suk-yeol on 21 May.
This is the first Asian bank in Biden’s presidency, and the first time that the President of the United States has broken the tradition of visiting Korea after visiting it. At the same time, it was the fastest Korean-American summit meeting since the new South Korean government came to power, which took place 11 days after Yoon Suk-yeol’s inauguration.
In the afternoon, Biden arrived at the US-Korean military airbase in the city of Kyawshan on board Air Force One, the first stop of which was the Samsung Electronic Semiconductor factory in Hizawa, Beijing. The US, for its part, has made this arrangement, taking into account the global supply chain and economic security cooperation. Yoon Suk-yeol is expected to visit with Biden, and three-star electronic vice-president Lee will accompany him. In the afternoon, Biden will be visiting the Seoul National School of Science and Technology, located in the Copperbird Cave in Seoul, and then to the Yongsan presidential palace for a meeting with Yoon Suk-yeol. After the talks, which lasted some 90 minutes and were divided into small talks and expanded talks, the leaders of the two countries will meet with journalists and issue a joint Korean-American declaration. It is envisaged that North Korea’s problems, economic security, and regional cooperation will be the focus of the conference, and the two countries expect that the conference will contribute to the development of the Korean-American alliance as a “comprehensive strategic alliance.” Upon the conclusion of the press conference, Yoon Suk-yeol will host a feast at the National Central Museum for Biden, which will be attended by the heads of the 10 largest groups in the country. On the afternoon of that day, Biden will leave for Japan for Yoon Suk-yeol. During the visit to Korea, Biden will not visit the Korean-Korean demilitarized zone (DMZ).
On 24th, Yoon Suk-yeol will attend the launch summit of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) in Japan via video. The multilateral economic cooperation mechanism was created under the auspices of the United States, and the Korean government decided to join it as an initial member.
