US media: US and India will hold joint military exercises, less than 100 kilometers away from the line of actual control on the Sino-Indian border
2022-08-07: [Article Link] The United States media quoted Indian sources as saying that the United States would participate in a joint military exercise with India at a distance of less than 100 kilometres from the Indian border.
According to CNN, on 6 August, a well-informed senior Indian Army officer reported that the joint military exercise would be held in mid-October in the Ori Mountains, at an altitude of 10,000 feet (approximately 3048 metres) in North Akand State, India, focusing on high-altitude combat training. This exercise was part of the 18th “Preparations for War” exercise. The US Department of Defense spokesman said to CNN that the annual “Preparation for War” bilateral exercise was designed to improve the ability to work together and to respond to “a range of regional security challenges”.
As previously reported by Xinhua, the United States Pacific Army Commander Charles Flynn announced during his visit to New Delhi in June that India and the United States would conduct joint military exercises in the Himalayas region in October. In response, the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zhao Lijian, responded at a press conference on 9 June that the situation on the Central-Indian border was currently generally stable and that the two armies had been separated from each other in most areas. The issue of the Chinese-Indian border is one of China-India’s own business, and both sides have the capacity to deal with it properly. But it is outrageous that some United States officials are squeezing and provoking each other.
