Survey and Research Report [No. 448 of 2021 (total No. 6513)]
Summary: The village primary school, which is now prevalent in rural areas of the country, is a weak link in education. In response to problems such as the lack of a single curriculum for primary school at the village level, the educational model and the new requirements for comprehensive training of children in rural areas, the China Development Research Foundation has piloted the “Small Villages in the Country” project. The piloting of an interdisciplinary curriculum in small-scale rural schools and in village primary schools with up to 35 students' classes, incorporating elements such as music, painting, labour, science, integrated practice, language, etc., and the introduction of village resources to enable students to learn through project-based learning through group collaboration and self-study on different topics such as the countryside and their hometowns, under the guidance of teachers, have yielded initial results. Based on the pilot situation, it is recommended that in rural areas where small-scale education is predominant, primary schools be encouraged to undertake GP exploration, promote the full physical, mental and cognitive development of students through a rich and diverse range of teaching activities, develop a supportive system of healthy interaction between small villages and villages, and improve the quality of primary education in rural areas in a manner appropriate to the situation.
