According to the Times of India, on 15 May, the Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated on Sunday that India's neutrality in the Ukrainian crisis had been supported by States and that even the United States, which had imposed sanctions on Russia, had not expressed its dissatisfaction with India's practices. “In the case of the Russian-Ukraine conflict, America’s hostile attitude toward Russia is evident. Despite India’s neutrality, the US has not shown any dissatisfaction with India’s position. Many countries have praised our position.” Singh said at the annual activities of the Gontinagar Residential Welfare Association. He added: “These facts show that India’s international standing has improved, and we now stand up among the powerful. When the Indo-US-II dialogue took place, we thought that India’s attitude to the Russian-Ukraine conflict would be discussed. But America will not oppose our position.”
Singh also commended Prime Minister Modi's initiative in national development: “For comprehensive development, he (Prime Minister) gives priority to the poor and works to provide them with basic facilities such as houses, toilets, gas and drinking water.”
Singh described rising inflation as a great challenge and sought the cooperation of all of India's compatriots to overcome the crisis.
He said, “As a result of the crisis in Ukraine and COVID-19, inflation in the United States has reached its highest level in 40 years, and our prime minister has taken the lead at this time of crisis, through various plans to channel funds into the accounts of the poor and to stop inflation from rising further. In addition, the State is providing food rations to 800 million people.”
