Survey and Research Report [No. 449 of 2021 (total No. 6514)]
Summary: The accelerated concentration of the population towards large urban clusters will result in significant additional housing needs. In recent years, housing conditions in seven large urban groups with a population of more than 70 million (5 per cent of the national population) and a GDP of more than 500 billion yuan (5 per cent of the national GDP) have improved significantly, but there are significant differences in the housing supply structure, the level of residence and the ability to pay for housing in different urban areas and in urban areas. Part of the core urban housing stock is in short supply, the lack of capacity to pay for housing is becoming increasingly evident, the housing difficulties of new groups of citizens require special attention, and the equalization of basic public services within urban communities and access to transport infrastructure need to be further strengthened. It is recommended that integrated coordination be undertaken at the urban planning, population, land and housing levels to build future-oriented, resilient urban housing systems that effectively support the high-quality development of urban communities.
